Chapter Two
Can I Come To See You ?
DAY 1
Downtown / In a slightly-run down apartment / Morning
Just like the day before, the man woke up in his creaky old wooden bed.
Just like the day before, he looked at himself in the stained oval-shaped mirror while brushing his teeth and washing his face. He then grabbed a can of beer from the not-so-tightly closed fridge, poured the content into a cup of black coffee brewed in a cracked coffee pot that was patched up with tape, before taking a few sips.
Just like the day before.
Suddenly, the rotary phone on the wall rang.
No one ever calls this early in the morning.
Bewildered, he went to answer the phone anyway.
On the other end of the line was a rather shy and unfamiliar female voice.
Man: Hello.
Woman: Do you believe… that some things in life are meant to be?
Man, feeling puzzled: …Hello?
Woman: I was the one who walked into the bar, all wet – and took shelter from the rain the other night.
He paused for a few seconds, before recalling: Ah, it’s you? How did you get my number?
Woman: I got it from your good friend, the bartender. I want to return the denim jacket you gave me. Can I come to see you?
The man was stumped and left speechless….
